Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business since April 2003. We moved to our current location in 2007.
What is your primary product or service?
We are a full service computer store. This means that we sell new and used computers, laptops, and tablets as well as a full array of computer parts. We also have our service department where our technicians can diagnose, fix, upgrade, maintain your computer or network. Services are offered in-store with flat rates by the job, throughout the state with hourly rates including travel time, and via remote support (via Citrix connection - requires working high speed internet connection).
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Michelle says she became interested in computer repair back in the dark ages (1990s) when her CD-ROM failed and she waited weeks for her father to replace it. He never did, so she decided to open it up and realized that she wasn't afraid of it and understood the "guts" of the PC without being taught. Her dad supervised her first computer assembly (she says she'll never forget him yelling at her for a major mistake - and that she never did it again....so yelling was probably the right thing to do, lol) that she ultimately got working successfully. She wanted more computers to work on, and called local computer companies to see if they had any trash computers that she could have to practice with. She was directed by several to Computer Tree, who told he to come in and bring a truck. When she arrived, she was asked a lot of questions and then told, you can take these if you'll take a job here and let us train you the rest of the way. Parts and training, who could ask for more? Well, ok, they wouldn't let her get certified like the other technicians, but they knew she was running a side business out of her home so I guess that's fair. She has been part owner of a computer store since 1996.
Phillip was highly technical in high school and knew what he wanted to do after graduation. He attended Forsyth Tech and got A+ certification and Microsoft Certified Professional certification. What the certifications and classrooms had not taught him was how chaotic computer service can be. He learned quickly at another local store, and began to identify things that the business was doing wrong.
When Phillip and Michelle got together as a couple in 2003, they realized that they could create a better business together. Dragonware Computers was born.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Dragonware's service department is different from the other computer stores in that we have a can-do attitude. There are so many ways that we can help with computer problems. We are willing to travel, we can connect remotely, we can fix it in the store, and for emergencies that can't wait in the line we offer expedited service. We also keep most parts in-stock, even laptop parts.
Our sales department offers new and used computers/laptops and new components. We usually have at least one high end gaming system, two medium gaming/HD media systems, and two basic home computers/workstations on hand, but can work with you to design a PC to fit your specific needs. We don't have "Sales People" like some big stores. You will always be speaking with a technician at Dragonware, we feel you should get the best advise....not just the best promotion.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover as well as cash in store. We do not accept checks.
We accept Paypay only for internet orders. We will not accept a credit card over the phone.
Our technicians can process a credit card at a service call.
Which areas do you service?
We will travel throughout NC for service calls. Travel time (both ways) is included in the invoice.
We can also fix most software issues anywhere as long as you have a working high speed internet connection. Sales are available online as well as in store.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Phillip and Michelle own Dragonware, but are not in as much as they used to be. Chris Jackson is the General Manager.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday through Friday 9am - 7pm
Saturday 10am - 3pm
Sunday Closed
